I AM THRILLED THAT DORMEUIL HAVE GRANTED J. H. CUTLER EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS IN AUSTRALIA FOR THEIR NEW JACKETING FABRIC ‘DREAM’.
‘Dream’ is incredibly soft and light in weight by virtue of its blend of 70% Mongolian cashmere and 30% silk. Mongolian cashmere is so fine that it is almost invisible to the naked eye, and so soft you can hardly tell you are touching something physical.
‘Dream’ comes in a selection of vital, fresh, luminous colours including two patterns in light blue stripes and deep red stripes and features a braided weave, giving it a youthful, summery, casual look.
Fabric samples are available for viewing at our showrooms in O’Connell Street in Sydney. This is important because only by feeling and touching this new fabric can you truly appreciate the quality and luxury of this superb cloth.
You could say it is a dream come true!
THE THIRD SERIES OF THE SUPERB TV HIT SERIES MAD MEN STARTED SHOWING IN AUSTRALIA ON MOVIE EXTRA A FEW DAYS AGO.
Set in a fictitious Madison Avenue ad agency Sterling Cooper in the early 1960s, the characters “day jobs” entail selling a dream and they dress as though they are a part of that dream. They are alluring, sexy and stylish.
The dapper cast all dress impeccably with the men wearing highly tailored suits that show off the figure, and whilst the global financial crisis and a related growth in job anxiety might have something to do with it, is it merely a coincidence that beautifully tailored suits appear to be making a comeback in offices throughout the western world.
Here in Sydney we are certainly seeing a lot of interest, particularly from younger men, in suit styles featuring sharper lines that are fitted around the shoulder and the waist. It’s a cut that is very masculine and particularly suited to the younger man who doesn’t need to hide in something big and baggy.
It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that a hit TV series has had an influence on fashion but it’s fascinating that this time it appears that it could be the men who are absorbing and replicating the style.
So is there a “Mad Men Effect”, or is it just a coincidence? What do you think?
Born in 1949 and christened John Handel Lawson Cutler, I am the fourth generation of my family to take up the tailor's shears. I joined the family business straight from school at 16 years of age. Even before then I had always shown a very keen interest in bespoke tailoring and shirt making.
